The Politics of Morality And Poor Mannequins

The problem with a democracy is that any idiot, who has the capability to gather a mob around him, can call the shots. A perfect example of this is the Municipal authority of Mumbai. In a sudden flash of (marijuana induced?) wisdom, someone identified the root cause of the increasing number of crimes against women in the city; the lingerie clad mannequins in the shopping malls. After an ingenious research, it was found that these semi clad mannequins  aroused the stupid common man so much that unable to restrain himself, he resorted to rapes. When Voltaire said, “Common sense is not so common”, he must be dreaming about all those future ex-Corporators of Mumbai who were so myopic  that they could never noticed these culprits, the messengers of the devil in plastic and satin.

With the removal of the mannequins from Mumbai malls, the libido of average Indian male residing in the Metro will go down considerably. All the polluted minds will get purified and Mumbai can then be safely declared Rape-free.  If Mohammed Bin Tughlaq sits up in his grave and starts laughing like a maniac, it’s his problem totally.

It is however very distressing to note that the Khajurahos and Konarks of the ‘Rashtra’ are not a part of ‘Maharashtra’.  A Golden chance to purify India of the pollution of the past has been lost forever. Taking inspiration from Ritu Tawade, I hope the ignorant people in Madhya Pradesh and Orissa wake up to the reality and take cognizance of what exactly is the root cause of all the ills in their states (the nude sculptures in those temples) and take appropriate action. If they cannot ban, they can always blast those symbols of sin into oblivion.

After all, why should Bamian have all the glory; we Indian are not very far now.
